Proton pump inhibitors and peptic ulcer management: Antioxidant mechanisms

چکیده

Peptic ulcer (P.U.) is the gastrointestinal tract's most frequent disorder affecting mainly stomach and duodenum. Surgical intervention, ingested materials microbial infections may trigger inflammation that further predispose to oxidative stress. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are group of compounds established for suppressions gastric acid secretions profoundly permanently over a reasonably long period time. Oxidative stress has been shown be involved in pathophysiology various diseases disorders, including P.U. Particularly when H. pylori infection accompanies it. In addition colonization this microorganism, mucosa subjected extreme with large levels inflammatory cell aggregation, which eventually disorder. PPIs exert several effects other than suppression can used treat Helicobacter infections, disorders respiratory tract, viral conditions related dysfunction endothelium by activating endogenous antioxidant protection reducing release cytokine. Recent therapeutic protocols have recommended as gastro-protective not only because their properties, but also potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Proton pump inhibitors after endoscopic hemostasis in patients with peptic ulcer bleeding.

BACKGROUND Peptic ulcer bleeding is a common and potentially fatal condition. For patients with bleeding peptic ulcers that display major endoscopic stigmata of recent hemorrhage, a combination of endoscopic and pharmacologic therapy is the current standard management. OBJECTIVE To show our experience with management of peptic ulcer bleeding. PATIENTS Patients who presented with gastrointes...

Review article: management of peptic ulcer bleeding-the roles of proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication.

Peptic ulcer bleeding is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. The goals of management are to control any active bleeding and prevent re-bleeding and then to heal the ulcer and prevent its recurrence. Initial management strategies are guided by the patient's clinical condition and endoscopic findings. Thus, treatment may consist of endoscopic and medical therapy and, sometimes, s...

Proton Pump Inhibitors in the Management of Patients with Acid-Peptic Disorders: A Managed Care Perspective

INTRODUCTION Acid-peptic disorders comprise conditions whose pathogenesis involves the effects of gastric acid and peptic activity on the tissue, although other factors may also contribute to the condition.1 Included among these disorders are gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastroduodenal injury and resultant bleeding caused by medications (e.g., aspirin and ...

Oral versus intravenous proton pump inhibitors in preventing re-bleeding for patients with peptic ulcer bleeding after successful endoscopic therapy

BACKGROUND High dose intravenous proton pump inhibitor after endoscopic therapy for peptic ulcer bleeding has been recommended as adjuvant therapy. Whether oral proton pump inhibitor can replace intravenous proton pump inhibitor in this setting is unknown. This study aims to compare the clinical efficacy of oral and intravenous proton pump inhibitor after endoscopic therapy. METHODS Patients ...
